President Bush's latest Supreme Court nominee is already on Capital Hill, making courtesy calls on the senators who will hold confirmation hearings on his nomination.

The choice of conservative Appeals Court Judge Samuel Alito follows the failed nominaton of Harriet Miers, the president's counsel. Miers withdrew last week under withering pressure from the president's conservative Republican political base.
