Demonstrators hold signs in front of the Supreme Court
Abortion Battles
Story aired: Tuesday, November 08, 2005

A new "Frontline" documentary airing on PBS stations tonight takes its name from the fact that only one abortion clinic remains in Mississippi. "The Last Abortion Clinic" examines how state governments backed by grassroots groups have crafted their own laws that place limits on abortion.

Abortion is perhaps the defining issue in the battle for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, and there's good reason. Since Roe v. Wade, the case that gave women the constitutional right to an abortion, other Supreme Court cases have slowly but radically altered access to that procedure on a state-by-state basis.

Guests:

Terry Herring, President of Pro-Life Mississippi

Betty Thompson, former abortion clinic director in Jackson, MI
