National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration infrared satellite shows Hurricane Katrina, Aug. 29, 2005
Global Warming After Katrina
Story aired: Thursday, December 08, 2005

The hurricanes that struck the Gulf Coast this year should show the U.S. that it needs to address global warming. That's what a group of representatives from the southeastern U.S. told those attending a global warming conference in Montreal this week.

A State Department representative in Montreal yesterday defended the Bush administration and said Washington believes it can do more to reduce greenhouse gases without international treaties. Washington has repeated that its plans to spend a significant amount of money on this over the next few years.
