Alito Hearings Day Five Story aired: Friday, January 13, 2006
Senate confirmation hearings for Judge Samuel Alito are expected to wrap-up today. Democrats and Republicans are calling several witnesses to testify. The vote on Slito's nomination is scheduled for sometime next week.
Despite indications that most Democrats will oppose the nomination, Alito is likely to be confirmed. There are few signs of Democrats mustering either the votes or the energy for a filibuster.
To help us reflect back on the hearings and look forward to a possible confirmation, Robin Young is joined by three guests:
Guests:
Gail Chaddock, congressional correspondent for The Christian Science Monitor.
Stuart Taylor, opinion columnist for the National Journal.
David Barron, assistant professsor of law at the Harvard Law School.
