Footprints and Levees
Story aired: Friday, January 13, 2006

The talk of the town in New Orleans this week can be summed up in two words: footprints and levees. A mayor-appointed commission unveiled its plan for rebuilding the city from Hurricane Katrina. That plan has the potential to dramatically shrink the footprint of the city by letting some of the worst hit areas of town return to marshland.

Meantime, President Bush visited the city yesterday and said he was impressed by some pretty dynamic changes since he last visited. But he did acknowledge that the clean-up process has been slow and complained that Congress had not funded half of the $3 billion he requested to rebuild the levees.

Guests:

Jason Berry, author and journalist in the city.

Ray Manning, New Orleans architect, who is working with the Bring New Orleans Back Commission to develop a plan for rebuilding the city.
