Jill Carroll, U.S. journalist kidnapped in Iraq. (AP)
Abducted Reporter Faces Death Threat
Story aired: Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Al Jazeera aired a 20 second silent video showing 28-year-old Jill Carroll, who was kidnapped in Iraq on January 7th. The network said her captors threatened to kill her if the United States didn't release all female prisoners being held in Iraq over the next 72 hours.

Carroll is a freelance reporter for the Boston-based Christian Science Monitor who has worked in the Middle East since 2002.

No insurgent group has claimed responsibility, but the words "The Revenge Brigade" appeared on a still photo of the video posted on Al Jazeera's website.

Carroll is the first American journalist kidnapped in Iraq and one of 36 foreign journalists abducted there since 2003.
