Ford Cutting 30,000 Jobs Story aired: Monday, January 23, 2006
Ford Motor Company is slashing up to 30,000 jobs and shuttering 14 plants from Atlanta to Ontario over the next six years.
Ford announced the massive cuts today at its Dearborn, Michigan headquarters just hours after posting a 19 percent gain in fourth quarter earnings over last year.
CEO Bill Ford said the company must respond to the changing marketplace, citing slumping SUV sales in the wake of high gas prices. Ford said the company would try to help communities affected by the cuts.
