Makeover for an American Icon
Story aired: Monday, January 23, 2006

Wonder Bread is launching two new whole wheat versions of the famous spongy white bread that many of us grew up with. The move is part of a the plan to breath some life into Interstate Bakeries, the makers of Wonder Bread and Twinkies.

Interstate Bakeries filed for bankruptcy in 2004 and closed several bakeries last year.

The brand dates back more than 80 years, but today the company is struggling as more Americans try to eat healthy and avoid highly processed foods like white bread.

Guests:

Stan Osman, vice president of marketing for Interstate Bakeries
