Palestinians Go to the Polls
Story aired: Wednesday, January 25, 2006

Election day is wrapping up in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem today as Palestinians cast ballots in the first parlimentary election in a decade.

Both the ruling Fatah party and its challenger, the islamic militant group Hamas, are predicting victory, but pollsters see the race as too close to call.

Fatah is asking for another chance because it has been tainted by corruption. Hamas has focused its message on clean government and has called Fatah's attempt to compromise with Israel a sign of weakness.

Guests:

Anne Barnard, who is covering the elections for The Boston Globe
