Several board members of Catholic Charities here in Boston are protesting the Church's attempts to exclude gay couples from adopting.
The state's Catholic bishops are trying to get an exemption to anti-discrimination laws, but Governor Mitt Romney has said he would not grant the church an exemption.
Catholic Charities, a national organization with local chapters, has acknowledged placing children with gay couples in the past in Boston, and that has caused a serious breach between the lay board and the archdiocese, which may have ramifications for the national debate over gay adoption.
