International Responses to Bird Flu Story aired: Wednesday, March 01, 2006
Officials from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the state department are in Washington today discussing international responses to avian flu.
In Germany, officials say the virus has been found in a cat in Berlin marking the first time in central Europe that an animal other than a bird has contracted the disease. In the Bahamas, officials are trying to determine whether the deaths of 15 flamingos might also be tied to the illness. Finally, in parts of Africa the government is resorting to cartoon information pamphlets to spread information about bird flu to its rural populations.
