The Story of a Violin Story aired: Monday, March 06, 2006
A man named Howard Scott celebrated his 87th birthday over the weekend in the town of Lacey, Washington. Among the gifts he received was a hand-made violin from his grandson, Nolle Pritchard. But this was no ordinary violin. You see, most of it was constructed in 1945 on an island in Washington State, where Scott was a prisoner at the time.
Almost 60 years later, his grandson, Nolle, began attending the North Bennett Street School here in Boston, an institution for old-world trades like cabinet making, clock making and, as luck would have it, violin making.
