Bush and the Law
Story aired: Tuesday, May 02, 2006

George W. Bush is the first president in modern history who has not Vetoed a bill -- not a single one in over five years. Instead, he's signed every bill passed by Congress, with great fanfare and photo opportunities. And then, according to a recent story in The Boston Gobe, the president is using something called a "signing statement" to declare that he will ignore portions of the law.

In fact, according to a Globe study, the president has used signing statements to disobey more than 750 laws, on topics as varied as intelligence, military rules, affirmative action and whistle-blower protections.
