Barbaro out of Surgery Story aired: Monday, May 22, 2006
Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro is said to be recovering today from surgery to repair his leg, which broke in three places before thousands of horrified horse racing fans at Saturday's Preakness stakes.
Barbaro was taken to the University of Pennsylvania's new Bolton center for large animals after pulling up lame roughly a hundred yards out of the gate. Surgeon Dean Richardson told the Today Show that while surgery may save his life, he will not race again.
