"Chicks" Not Ready to Make Nice Story aired: Tuesday, May 23, 2006
You won't see the Dixie Chicks on the stage at the Academy of Country Music Awards tonight. Country stations pulled all of the popular country girl group's songs after singer Natalie Maines famously criticized President Bush from a London stage in 2003, saying "we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." Since 2003, the group has fallen from their spot as the biggest-selling female group in music history.
Following a seeming trend in today's pop music scene, just about every song on the new Dixie Chicks CD, called "Taking the Long Way," including the new single "Not Ready to Make Nice," refers unapologetically to what they call "the incident."
