Virtuous Video Games?
Story aired: Tuesday, June 06, 2006

A new genre of video games joins popular titles such as Grand Theft Auto and NBA Jam, but instead of rising the ranks of organized crime or making high-flying dunks, gamers dodge armed Janjaweed in the Sudan in one such game called "Darfur is Dying" and take on the role of the two students who were responsible for the Columbine shootings in "Super Columbine Massacre RPG!"

Available for free download on the Internet, these "games for change" are designed to disturb and educate players

Here & Now speaks to an unlikely player, Richard Castaldo, shot and paralyzed during the Columbine shootings, as well as Danny Ledonne, creator of "Super Columbine Massacre RPG!"

Guests:

Richard Castaldo, victim of the Columbine shootings

Danny Ledonne, creator of "Super Columbine Massacre RPG!"

Ian Bogost, founding partner of Persuasive Games

Joey Cheek, US Olympic Speed Skater and Darfur activist
