Medical Records in the Digital Age
Story aired: Tuesday, June 13, 2006

Despite the benefits of recent developments in information technology, the digital age compromises the security of private information, including the social security numbers of more than 26 million veterans, which were stolen from the home of a government computer analyst earlier this spring. Concerns of federal domestic spying and credit card hackers have replaced those of traditional methods of identity theft.

Now a collaborative of federal and private groups is looking to digitize your medical records, raising more anxiety over the security of personal information.

Syndicated health columnist Judy Foreman joins Here & Now to discuss the pros and cons of medical records going electronic.
