Bush speaks at a press conference in the Rose Garden of the White House, June 14 (AP)
Bush Affirms US Support of Iraqi PM Story aired: Wednesday, June 14, 2006
After a surprise visit to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Malik in Baghdad yesterday, President Bush returned to the White House to hold a rare and, perhaps opportunistic, press conference.
The Prime Minister is cracking down on violence around Baghdad with a larger police force monitoring more check points around Baghdad and is requesting increased aid from the international community. Sidestepping recent congressional proposals to hasten the withdrawal of US troops, President Bush explained that the US will continue to supply the forces necessary to help Iraq's new government succeed.
