Rafik Hariri International Airport after Israeli warplanes targeted it Thursday July 13, 2006 (AP)
Israel Strike Beirut Airport
Story aired: Thursday, July 13, 2006

In the second day of Israel's widening offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas, Israeli warplanes have struck Lebanon's only international airport, Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut.

Today's attack is the first strike on the Lebanese army in Israel's fight with Hezbollah guerrillas. Since the capture of two soldiers triggered Israeli retaliation Wednesday, 50 people have died.

In response, Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israeli towns. The guerrilla terrorist organization has also threatened to blast, Haifa, Israel's major port city. Such an attack would be the deepest Hezbollah had ever penetrated Israeli borders.

Jerusalem Bureau Chief of the New York Times, Steven Erlanger, joins us with analysis and updates on the developing situation in Lebanon.
