Whither Lobbying Reform? Story aired: Monday, September 18, 2006
Editorial pages around the country are taking aim at Congress for what they characterize as anemic attempts to rein in corruption on Capitol Hill.
Why the fuss?
Consider this: In 1987, President Reagan vetoed a transportation funding bill because it had 152 "earmarks," pet projects that often help lawmakers curry favor in their home districts. By comparison last year's highway bill set aside 6,371 such projects.
We wanted to spend some time learning more about "earmarks" and failed efforts at lobbying reform.
