Growing Violence in Afghanistan Story aired: Tuesday, September 26, 2006
With the president of Afghanistan by his side, President Bush this morning promised as soon as possible to declassify a National Intelligence Estimate that reportedly concluded that the war in Iraq had fueled the global jihad movement. And President Bush told President Karzai that the United States would continue to stand behind Afghanistan as violence continues to flare in that country.
And just today a suicide bomber killed 18 people in south of the country where NATO troops are fighting a fierce Taliban insurgency. And a bombing outside of the capitol Kabul killed an Italian soldier and a child. Moreover, Afghans are mourning the chief of the women's affairs office in Kandahar Province, who yesterday was gunned down outside her home.
