Calls for a Citgo Boycott
Story aired: Thursday, September 28, 2006

Some American consumers want Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to pay for calling President Bush "the devil" and an alcoholic while addressing the United Nations General Assembly last week.

This week 7-Eleven Inc. announced it will stop selling gas from the Venezuelan-owned Citgo Petroleum Corporation. And some conservative bloggers are urging people to boycott Citgo stations.

7-Eleven now says its has been planning to switch gasoline suppliers for a year, but in its press release sympathized with many Americans' concerns over derogatory comments made by Chavez.

One of them is Republican State Representative Adam Hasner of Florida. Hasner wants the state to break its exclusive contract with Citgo at its highway service stops.
