Halsey Burgund's Booth
Story aired: Friday, October 27, 2006

Part musician, part artist, and some say, anthropologist, Halsey Burgund has schlepped his low-tech "bring you own voice" recording booth to locations around the country.

Burgund said he wanted to hear the voices of strangers. One problem: getting them to open up. But Burgund had an idea.

"I wanted to create a comfortable situation for them. So I built this booth rather than going into a street and sticking a microphone into people's faces," Burgund said.

The plywood booth, which he transports on the roof of his Jetta, has helped him accomplish what he set out to do.

"It really does make people feel comfortable to open up on different topics I'm interested in exploring," Burgund said.
