The Art of Whistling
Story aired: Thursday, December 28, 2006

Whistlers get no respect. There was a time when they were featured soloists touring with big bands. Now whistlers get a bad rap for being too cheery as in that band of crucified thieves hanging Christ-like from crosses in the Monty Python film "Life of Brian."

Well, the gang from Monty Python join the soldiers from "Bridge Over the River Kwai," the 7 dwarfs, and dozens of other depictions of whistlers throughout history in the new film "Pucker Up."

The film, a documentary about the Annual International Whistling Convention in Lewisburg, North Carolina, is about much more -- it's the history of whistling.

The Netherlands's Geert Chatrou, captured in the world championship after a tense, rocky-like whistle off at the end of the film and the competition, joins us now in the studio along with "Pucker Up" co-director Kate Davis.

Guests:

Geert Chartrou, world championship whistler.

Kate Davis, co-director of the film "Pucker Up."
