Verna's Coffee and Donut Shop
Story aired: Monday, January 01, 2007

Among the last words of the late Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill were his remembrances of the way the honey-dipped donuts at Verna's Coffee and Donut Shop tasted.

After 65 years of making donuts and serving coffee to residents of North Cambridge, Massachusetts, Verna's closed its doors this weekend -- a victim of chain store competition and changing demographics in the old working class neighborhood.

We stopped by to talk with workers and patrons about the end of an era.
