Warm Weather Forces Ice Fishing Contest to Cancel
Story aired: Friday, January 05, 2007

The Golden Rainbow Ice Fishing Tournament in Minnesota was cancelled this year because of poor ice conditions.

According to the contest's Web site, this is the third time in five years that warm weather has forced the competition's organizers to re-schedule.

We speak with Jason Green, one of the organizers of the Golden Rainbow Ice Fishing Tournament.

Climate expert Kerry Emanuel of MIT comments on why it's warm in Minnesota and the northeast, extra snowy in Colorado and the Plains states, and extremely dry in Africa and Australia.

In hopes of finding ice that won't melt, the contest will be moved further north to Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 2008.
