"Letters of a Portuguese Nun"
Author Myriam Cyr
Story aired: Monday, February 12, 2007

In 1669, five letters written by a high-born Portuguese nun named Mariana to the handsome French office who loved and left her were intercepted and published. The world of romance would never be the same. According to author Myriam Cyr, until the letters a tacit silence surrounded men's behavior in love. Mariana broke the code, for the first time a female acknowledged betrayal --- and lust.

Cyr, a Canadian American actress, spent three years tracking down the truth, which is detailed in her book " Letters of a Portuguese Nun : Uncovering the Mystery Behind a 17th Century Forbidden Love."
