The Pitfalls of Franchises
Story aired: Thursday, March 15, 2007

The sandwich-maker Quiznos is one of the fastest growing food chains. It is also coming under growing criticism from some of its franchisees. Recently, the New York Times reported the story of Bhupinder Baber, owner of tow Quizno's franchises who committed suicide leaving behind a note blaming the chain for ruining his life.

Baber had a legal dispute with Quiznos and he isn't alone. And Quiznos is not the only targeted by disgruntled franchisees.

We speak to Susan Kezios of the American Franchisee Association and Deborah Williams and Richard Welshans from Anapolis, Maryland. Welshans and Williams are pursing legal action against The Coffee Beanery chain.

Guests:

Deborah Williams

Richard Welshans
