"Spring Awakening" Story aired: Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Rocker Duncan Shek has gone from "Barely Breathing" to perhaps breathing a sigh of relief -- his music for the Broadway hit "Spring Awakening" is getting raves.
The original play was written by German playwright Frank Wedekind in 1891 and was so controversial that it wasn't performed in English for 100 years. Duncan Shek's new score and the new book and lyrics by Steven Sater keep Wedekind's angst-ridden German school boys historically accurate, except for the fact that they occasionally strut the stage like rock stars.
Both Shek and Sader join us on the line from New York.
