Jan Pronk (AP)
Candid Talk on Darfur
Story aired: Wednesday, March 28, 2007

On his first trip to the Darfur region of Sudan early this week, the new United Nations humanitarian chief was blocked from visiting a refugee camp run by the U.N. by Sudanese army officers, prompting him to warn that the world's largest aid effort might collapse.

Joining us in the studio is Jan Pronk, who recently stepped down as the U.N.'s special representative in Sudan after he was banned from the country by the current president.

He began his work in Darfur shortly after the fighting between the African rebels and the Arab Sudanese government began in 2003.
