Key Iraqi Ally Killed
Story aired: Thursday, September 13, 2007

The most prominent figure in a U.S.-backed alliance of Sunni sheiks -- one who met with President Bush last week -- was killed by a roadside bomb near his home in Anbar province.

Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha was key figure in the Anbar Salvation Council, an alliance of Sunni tribal leaders which fought foreign Al Qaeda fighters in that region.

His assassination comes as General David Petraeus has been touting success in Anbar during his testimony on Capitol Hill this week, and just hours before President Bush is to address the nation on Iraq.
