Supreme Court Won't Hear Torture Lawsuit
Story aired: Tuesday, October 09, 2007

The Supreme Court has taken President Bush's side in a case involving state secrets. The court refused to hear the lawsuit of a German man who says he was abducted and tortured by the CIA while detained in a secret prison in Afghanistan. By doing so, the Supreme Court has effectively endorsed the Bush administration's argument that state secrets would be revealed if the case moved forward. Reporter Demetri Sevastopulo of the Financial Times of London interprets the implications of the court's decision.
