Musharraf to Step Down as Army Chief Story aired: Thursday, November 22, 2007
President Pervez Musharraf is expected to step down as Army chief this weekend and take the oath of office for a new five year term as president.
This comes after Pakistan's Supreme Court, which was recently stacked with Musharraf loyalists, ruled today that Musharraf can serve as civilian president.
Musharraf suspended the Constitution this month and ousted judges opposed to him. Critics say they were about to rule against Musharraf in his bid for the presidency.
We talk to Shahan Mufti of the Christian Science Monitor in Islamabad.
