"The Bloody Shirt"
The Bloody Shirt
Story aired: Friday, March 07, 2008

It could be called America's first war against terrorism. More than 3,000 blacks and their white allies in the South were killed during a bloody insurgency in the decade after the Civil War ended. To some extent, the North won the war but the South won the peace. The post-war gains made by African Americans were shortlived. We recall the history with Steven Budiansky, author of the new book, "The Bloody Shirt: Terror After Appomattox."
