Robots and Roadside Bombs

Of the more than 4,000 U.S. casualties of the war in Iraq, more than have been caused by "IEDs," improvised explosive devices also known as "roadside bombs." The U.S. military relies more and more on robots to disarm and destroy these bombs.

Glenn Zorpette, of the technology magazine IEEE Spectrum, recently spent time in Iraq talking with the men and women who operate and repair these robots.
